I wouldn’t buy a gift card from most stores anyway. Not unless the cards are behind a counter or otherwise inaccessible, as gift card scams are endemic. If there is a local Apple Store, you can buy gift cards there, as well.

Your question is unclear. What do you mean by "support worker being present"? If you buy them online as indicated in a previous post then nobody has to be there. If you buy them in a store then somebody needs to take your money as the cash register/till.
