Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II Driver

I have a new MacBook Air with Sonoma V14.4. Canon no longer supports divers or any support for this printer. Does anyone know of any drivers that I can use for this printer?

I bought this printer years ago, and just now getting ready to use it, with no luck.

MacBook Air, macOS 14.4

Hi,

Unfortunately, as you have discovered, Canon drivers appear to exist up to macOS 10.13 High Sierra only.

https://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer/products/printers/pixma/pro-series/pixma-pro9000-mark-ii.html?type=drivers&language=EN&os=macOS%2010.13%20(High%20Sierra)

Experimental Gutenprint drivers for the printer model in question are listed at https://gimp-print.sourceforge.io/p_Supported_Printers.php, but it is unclear whether these would work with anything higher than macOS 10.14 Mojave.

There are drivers for up to Windows 10 from Canon, in case you have to use a PC as a workaround.

Generally speaking, be careful if you are looking for drivers on the Internet. There are several dubious "support" sites, often with misleading names. Download from an official web site of the printer manufacturer, or from another trustworthy source (such as Apple).

Thank you for the information.

wondering if I can downgrade my operating system.

No, that is normally not possible (at least not with a new Mac as in this case).

You could of course look for a second-hand Mac of an earlier model, having an operating system version that would be compatible with the available drivers from Canon. Alternatively, an old Windows PC. This just for the printing of photos. Transfers from the new MacBook Air could be carried out via a network, or on a USB flash drive.

Also, the following download from Apple is not compatible with macOS 12 (Monterey) and newer according to the web page. The Canon Pro9000II series is listed in the referenced article. It may not work at all with your system, and should be looked upon as an experiment. Proceed at your own risk. As always, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files before testing anything.
