Apple mail not showing "important" emails in inbox -- infuriating

I read all my mail in Apple mail but it shunts gmail marked "important" to a special (hidden) "important" folder, and does NOT show these emails in the inbox. Thus, I never know that a truly important email is residing in the "important" folder for that email address. I have a dozen email addresses so checking each "important" box there is too tedious a workaround. There are numerous convoluted prior threads so I thought I'd repost. Please don't blame google. What is the simple fix to this problem which is so important and widespread there MUST be a simple solution from Apple by now. Thank you!

There's no one else to blame. They made a non-standard email system that doesn't play well with standards-compliant email clients. When an "important" email comes in, Gmail says it belongs in both the Inbox folder and the Important folder at the same time. There is no way to do that on IMAP. A message can only exist in one folder.

Stop using Gmail on Mail. Use the web portal. That's what Gmail was designed to operate in.

Gmail isn't IMAP, but it pretends to be, poorly.

Or what if I disable "show in imap" for the google setting for "important"?

That will probably work.

When I used Gmail in Mail many years ago, I had turned off all the superfluous labels in IMAP. I don’t know if I just missed anything marked Important or if it just put them in the Inbox.

Respectfully, this is not an acceptable "answer". For one thing I specified -- please don't blame google. I can't stand google either but apple ought to be able to figure this out. Full stop.
