iPhone 14 iMessage not available on primary phone after using a secondary eSIM.

I used a secondary phone eSIM while out of the US but now that I am in my primary line again I am still not able to send/receive SMS messages between iPhones. Messages continue to appear in green bubbles, indicating text messages. I verified in Settings that iMessage is on, and turned my phone off and on but it did not fix the issue.
