How To Playback MIDI Files on MacOS Monterey with on-board tools - if possible? I thought Quicktime Player app would do that. But obviously it doesn't.

That was old style QuickTime 7 (32 bit).

Try GarageBand.
VLC is said to also support MIDI.
Else search for “MIDI” in the Mac App Store for more players.
