I am unable to access my iTunes backup with the same password

I used iTunes to back up my iPhone 14+ in May 2024, with a password. I can access this backup using said password. After that, iTunes did not default to asking if I wanted an encrypted backup, it just encrypted my backup, BUT with a different password to the one I used in May 2024.

Before going on leave I backed up my 14+ using iTunes onto my PC.

I had to reset my 14+ while on leave and used iCloud backup to restore most of my data, but not messages and some other items. I want to use the backup before I went away to do a full restore, but I am unable to open the June 2024 backup with the same password used in May 24.

iTunes does not let you change the password when you right click and say Backup Now.

So how has it changed the password?

This has happened for unknown reasons to other users in the past.

All you can try is to use other passcodes you used on your device, the Lock Screen code, for example.

As far as I remember, simple codes like 0000, 1111, etc. worked for some users somehow.

Or, in case you have changed the backup password in the past, try the very first you set up.

Thank you Ingo 2711.

I had read some of the past issues and I was really hoping that since this issues years old now, Apple might be able to say what iTunes would default to when it decided to unilaterally change the password.

I have tried about 100 different old and new passwords but to no avail.

The **** off is that it randomly chose to change the password from one month to the next with no input from me.
