Is it Safe to Charge AirPods Pro in Old Case with Lightning Lead?

I had to replace my airpods pro with new ones. They now come with USB C lead to charge. I dont have a USB C plug yet. Is it possible/advisable to charge new series air pods in the old case with lightning lead?
