Wallet Apple Pay verification

Why does my verification code go to a number that doesn’t exist. I have updated my number on Apple ID also on Apple Pay in settings. Bit whatever I try it still tries to send to a number ending in triple zero

iPhone 11, iOS 17

Because your bank that issued the credit/debit card has the wrong phone number. Please contact your bank’s support team using the phone number printed on the back of the card.

>>Adding additional verification

A card issuer can decide whether a credit or debit card requires additional verification. Depending on what’s offered by the card issuer, the user may be able to choose between different options for additional verification, such as a text message, email, customer service call or a method in an approved third-party app to complete the verification. For text messages or email, the user selects from contact information the issuer has on file.

A code is sent, which must be entered into Apple Wallet, Settings or the Apple Watch app. For customer service or verification using an app, the issuer performs their own communication process.<<

You’re welcome. No, Wallet app or Apple Pay do not provide contact information. Apple cannot verify your cards. Did you read what I copied and pasted from the Apple Support article?

That’s how it works. To do it any other way would be an invitation to fraudsters to add any card to Apple Wallet.

Some banks use a third party verification service. Some banks may also rely on the Payment Network Operator for verification. But Apple does not play a role in verification of your credit and/or debit accounts.
