Strange "Shadow Screen" issue.

Late last year I got a macbook pro. Everything has been working fine until a couple days ago when something weird started happening to the display.

Whenever it turns off instead of turning back on normally it has a chance of coming back almost completely black with what I can only describe as shadows of the windows I had opened. Does the shadow pattern move when you move the display on its hinge?

Can you see any evidence of stress applied to the metal cover on the display? Dents? Scuffs?

if you shine a bright light at the display, is the data Present, but only the backlight missing?
