Apple preferred diagnostic tool

Sometimes, the technical staff at this site asks a customer to run a particular diagnostic tool so that they can analyze the problems and try to determine a solution. Oh, and then they'll ask the customer to send them the graph/analysis, so that they can help the customer fix the problem

What is the name of that app?

iMac 24″, macOS 14.5

I and others here often ask for an Etrecheck report. Is that what you are referring to?

Anyway, I now think that everything is okay, and that I needn't call Apple after all. There were no major issues, and here's their minor issues report:

Well, that is the whole story. Thanks for trying to help me.

From the Very Limited information the user ( you ) have provided in the Screen Shot above.

This computer is actually compromised by the usage of Multi Third Party Security Software.

Not of which are needed.

Part 1 of 2

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that cannot be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

The only Entity that can open and modify or alter this Volume is Apple.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

AntiVirus Developers purposefully Market their product to create a “ Fear Factor “. In so doing, creating a False Need for their Product.

Security. Built right in

Mac app security enhancements

The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Protecting against malware in macOS

Part 2 of 2

Often times though not always. Some users who use AntiVirus Software will also install and use Disk Cleaners, Disk Optimizers

A favourite one of these Disk Cleaners is This will include CleanMyMac , aka “ BrickMyMac

By it's very aka name we know what that could mean

If one what a true fully analysis of the recent Etrecheck Report

It is suggested you actually sharing the Full Text of the Report

The fact that you could not run EtreCheck or install the EtreCheck update easily is a sign that your computer has some serious issues...could be hardware, could be software, or a configuration issue, or a bit of all three. CMM is the most obvious source, but any anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, or third party security software are likely to be contributing to the problems as well. Most of these types of apps have a component which is running all the time & interferes with the normal operation of macOS at a very low level where the slightest hiccup can have immense repercussions. Plus any app which makes automatic decisions on cleanup & optimization can disrupt something important & you will never know that the app did such a thing which makes troubleshooting issues much harder.

The reason we are so adamant about people uninstall CMM is because that app has been the confirmed cause of a users problems more than most any other app. But all similar apps along with CMM are probably the cause of 70% or more of most issues people post about on this forum. The CMM website actually has some very good information about macOS that is well presented except for their recommendation to use the CMM app.

macOS already does a good job at keeping the system running properly & keeping it safe, especially when the user also practices safe computing habits such as those outlined in the following article written by a respected forum contributor:

Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community

The best way to minimize issues....is not to install any unnecessary software. Just install what you need to do your work. If you want to try out some new software, then I highly recommend trying it out on another computer, or on another boot volume (internal if you have enough Free storage space either with another copy of macOS installed in a Virtual Machine or in another APFS volume), or an external boot drive so that your main work OS remains clean & uncluttered. Only install the apps you know you want & need and have tested elsewhere. This is what I do and my systems all run smoothly. I do all experimentation with another computer or another copy of the OS.

If you post the complete EtreCheck report we would be happy to provide our thoughts on it for you. Users need someone else to read & interpret the report since the user themselves are too close to their own system to always recognize possible issues. The more senior forum contributors have reviewed thousands or more posts on this forum, so they have a lot of experience recognizing what has worked to solve user issues the majority of times. Of course the user is always free to ignore any advice here and are free to install & use whatever software they wish as long as the user realizes there may be side effects & consequences which they may need to deal with at some point.

Despite this site's continuing animus against Clean My Mac, I have always thought, and still think, that it is a marvelous tool for ferreting out and fixing computer problems. Unfortunately, due to problems with management(s), I regretfully decided against renewing my subscription when it expired this June. What was the problem? Well, maybe the old adage, "Too many cooks spoil the broth" best sums it up. For years, a question to Clean My Mac, presumably in Ukraine, got a prompt and useful reply. Then, over time, things changed. I no longer got useful or prompt replies, and I kept seeing names like MacPaw, Paddle, and one other cross my screen. Now, I didn't know the roles of any of them but I do know that Clean My Mac was no longer the product it had been, and no longer worth keeping. That's why I non-renewed it

I also think Onyx is great, and after reviewing the ENTIRE EntreCheck site for the first time, I see that it is a very useful tool.

Going sideways is always a great way to avoid the Original Point that appears in their Image

Yes, I just came back to tell you that I think it's EtreCheck. My problem now is I don't know how to operate it. I'll try to send you an image, but I usually fail in that emdeavor. Here it comes...maybe. If that doesn't work, I'll continue with text only.

Well, that didn't work. Anyway, what do I do after clicking on the Etrecheck link and it opens?
