Account recovery not working

My recovery contact and I cannot receive or send any info or codes to each other ? MyAccount recover contact has a iPhone 11 and data is up-to-date. I have a iPhone 13 mine too is also up to date . We both have accepted each others request as account recovery contacts . Now my Apple ID is no longer valid because it’s locked due to too many failed password attempts. How can I get Appleid valid again ? It’s locked cause the password was a generated password from Apple I didn’t make it up or write it down cause I used my Face ID as a password . I recently got my phone back from Apple from either a repair or replacement through warranty . I think it was replaced because when I got the phone back it didn’t recognize my face screen was on set up .No contacts , passwords , emails , notes or files were saved . The “genius” at Apple never asked if phone was backed up ,or if I needed to write down any info from phone he just said he would “have phone ready to for pick up in a hr or two from now” . So now I’ve finally just given up and made a new Apple ID , password , so is there any hope or no on recovering my old account ? Or is permanently closed ? I really just want the contacts , photos, files back from locked account if possible .

I already spoke with Apple and basically it’s like this…….only 3 options to choose from , well technically 2 the 3rd and final option is all on a chance 1. The 28 digit security key . 2. The Appleid password . Options 1-2 aren’t ever gonna happen so im down to my third and final option 3. Try signing in on an old iPhone that was signed in with same account . If nothing else get my photos videos and contacts back…….maybe ??

Always have backups of your devices. Ideally keep critical items such as photos on a computer. iCloud is convenient but it is too much all eggs in one basket if you have account issues.

Always assume your device may get erased. Usually the people at Apple will ask you if you have a backup. Sometimes a "repair" is actually replacing with a refurbished device. This means there's little wait time, but of course you are receiving an empty device.

never heard of a generated password for Apple ID. But you should have been given the option to use your recovery contact. If not there is a major problem going on.

this is an issue I just ran into myself and this is how I found your post on this forum and felt I need to get this out.

A new Apple ID I have a recovery contact setup, used it now (out of no where) there is no option to log in just my 28 digit recovery number and all these worked fine 24 hrs ago. It says my 28 digit recovery code is incorrect. When it's not. It's the one I recorded and have it on paper. Senior advisor told me they would never setup a 28 digit recovery code. So what does that tell you. Read in between the lines.

This is 4 Apple IDs of mine 2 are mysteriously not able to login in and have security keys setup. 2 weeks ago worked like a charm. Now dead. No issue with the keys elsewhere. Be very careful with Apple's security setup. It's not user friendly at all when you think you are doing the right thing. Apparently my situation is being looked at but I don't believe one word as this has gone on for several months.

Once you get your stuff back, guard it and make copies and it's up to you to continue to use iCloud. That's all I am going to say.

Best of luck
