M2 Mini to LED Cinema display

I'd like to replace an older 27" iMac with an M2 Mini. Is a 27" LED Cinema display appropriate for use with the M2 Mini, and if so would a HDMI to Mini Display Port cable be the best connection?

If this is a 27" display, make sure you have identified it correctly.

  • The 27" LED Cinema Display (model A1316) requires Mini DisplayPort input. For it, a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter would be appropriate, and an Apple Thunderbolt 3-to-2 adapter would not be. This display has a USB uplink and does not have FireWire 800 or Gigabit Ethernet hub ports.
  • The 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display (model A1407) requires Thunderbolt input. A USB-C to Mini DIsplayPort adapter will not work with this display. You need the Apple Thunderbolt 3-to-2 adapter. This display does not have a USB uplink, but does have FireWire 800 and Gigabit Ethernet hub ports.
