Sonoma 14.5 Google drive installer stuck on "installing package scripts".

After Sonoma updated to 14.5 Google drive stopped appearing in the menu bar. I tried various things to fix the problem but eventually removed the old Drive app and proceeded to download and install a new version. No matter what I do the installer stalls at "installing package scripts". Anyone else had problems?
