iOS 17.5.1 iPhone 14 and iPad Air Gen4 Connectivity Issues.

Both of my devices are beset with connectivity problems. Both drop out of WiFi and will not reconnect unless I do a restart or often a hard reboot.

It isn’t due to the VPN because I have this switched off.

On the iPhone the problem also plagues Mobile data connection.

I’ve been glumly sitting with my friends happily using their iPhone XRs using iOS 17.5.1 on Internet, Messaging and Social Media , etc. while mine won’t connect at all.

Leaving a working WiFi hub doesn’t always connect to mobile data.

I’ve also had problems with CarPlay dropping out on a long journey (while still getting some bars on signal strenght.

I’ve tried everything I can think of and believe it must be a problem with the OS.

Please could an anyone provide a solution (other than buying a Samsung) or can Apple tell me it is a problem and they will fix it.

Here are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve these problems:

1. Reset Network Settings

- Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

- This will reset your WiFi networks, passwords, cellular settings, and VPN/APN settings.

2. Update iOS

- Ensure both devices are running the latest version of iOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

3. Forget WiFi Network and Reconnect

- Go to Settings > WiFi > Tap on the network name > Forget This Network.

- Reconnect by selecting the network and entering the password.

4. Check for Carrier Settings Update

- Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you’ll be prompted to install it.

5. Reset All Settings

- Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings.

- This will reset all settings to default but will not delete your data.

6. Check Router Settings

- Ensure your router’s firmware is up to date.

- Restart your router and modem.

- Check the maximum number of devices supported by your router.

7. Disable WiFi Assist (iPhone

- Settings > Cellular > Scroll down and turn off WiFi Assist.

8. Check VPN and Security Software

- Even if VPN is off, sometimes security software or VPN apps can cause connectivity issues. Try uninstalling any VPN apps and see if the problem persists.

9. Contact Your Carrier

- Sometimes issues are related to the carrier. Contact them to ensure there are no outages or account-related issues affecting your service.

10. Reset Location & Privacy

- Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy.

11. Check for Interference

- Ensure there are no significant sources of interference nearby, such as microwaves or other electronic devices.

12. Factory Reset

- As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset. Ensure you back up your data first.

- Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad > Erase All Content and Settings.

If none of these steps work, it’s possible there might be an issue with the OS itself or a hardware issue. In that case, you should:

Contact Apple Support

- Apple Support App: Use the Apple Support app to chat with a support representative.

- Visit an Apple Store: Make an appointment at a Genius Bar for in-person help.

Given that your friends with iPhone XRs are not experiencing the same issues on the same network, it seems specific to your devices or the specific combination of your devices and network. Apple Support can provide more specific diagnostics and solutions.

Many thanks for your reply, it was very helpful.

I had already tried some the points you mentioned, and others relating to the router that I couldn’t check. However, I believe that the problems were most likely caused by my VPN and Security App, as you note in Step 8. I removed it and connection seemed to work OK. I have now re-installed the latest version of the VPN/Security App and hope that this will resolve the issue.

Much Appreciated!
