Ipad Air M2 Magic Keyboard Reverse Compatibility with iPad Pro 12.9 (3,4,5,6 Generation) Keyboards?

Hi, I purchased an Ipad Air M2 13" and was looking into Magic Keyboards - I noticed that the new Magic Keyboard is compatible with the previous Ipad Pro 12.9 (3,4,5,6) generations. Does this mean that the pervious Magic Keyboards (Apple & Logitech) originally created for these generations would also work with the Ipad Air 13" M2?

Not necessarily...

Apple's Magic Keyboard uses magnets to hold the iPad into the keyboard - the magnet locations being critical.

The magnets incorporated within the new iPad Pro M4 are known to be positioned differently to the prior iPad's Pro 12.9". If the magnets within the keyboard and associated iPad don't perfectly align, the iPad will not be secure.

If you already have an existing keyboard, you have nothing to lose in trying. If instead you are considering purchase of a new keyboard with a new iPad, you would be wise the only purchase a current model keyboard that is explicitly designed for your new iPad Pro M4 or Air M2.
