Cannot complete the scan through Mac OS, "No document loaded" error

When I scan something using the "Open scanner..." button on my printer in System Preferences, the scanner goes through all the motions but at the very end shows "No document loaded", the Scan button is grayed out, there's no way to save the scan, and I just wasted my time. Is this fixed yet? I saw other discussions about this problem. OS Ventura 13.6, M1 Mac Mini. Brother MFC-L2750DW but it's apparently not on the printer's side it's the OS. Others have the same problems with HP and Epson machines.

Mac mini, macOS 10.14

Thank you @Barney-15E, I didn't know about scanning ("importing") into Preview as a way to do it. I have only used Preview as a way to print PDFs that had font issues printing out of Acrobat. This method worked great, I was also able to pre-scan and make adjustments using the settings that became available. Problem solved! I'll have to get used to doing it this way but it works.
