Why will 47 min of songs not fit on a CD blank?

In the Music app on Sonoma (M1 MAX MacBook Pro) I am trying to burn eight music tracks to a CD-R. I dug up an old Apple SuperDrive with a USB cable. I had to use a USB-A to USB-C adapter, of course.

Those eight tracks comprise 47 min of total music. When I try to burn it, I get this:

The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD.”

“Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them?”

This will require more than one blank CD to complete.”

Huh?

Incidentally, if I chose “OK,” Music will burn the eight tracks to eight individual CD blanks.

Music Version 1.4.5.36.

So, I tried it on an Intel iMac running Sonoma. I can burn that same playlist there, using the macOS Music app.

I guess, my original conjecture was pretty much on the mark: burning removable media is not very high on the troubleshooting agenda for Apple Silicon Macs running Sonoma or beyond. It was a bug. I’ll file a report but am not holding my breath.
