attempting to login to Facebook on my MacBook Air and receiving a message check your WhatsApp Messages for a code and I do not have a WhatsApp account. What is happening?

It sounds like WhatsApp has been set up as a second factor authentication method for your facebook account.
If you didn’t do that, your account may very well have been compromises.
Contact facebook for support.
Because you set up your WhatsApp account as the second factor method for your Facebook account.
If you're not happy about it, contact Facebook. They own both of those services. It has absolutely nothing to do with Apple.
Ask facebook. It has nothing to do with Apple.
