The procedure would be to make an appointment at the Apple Store or visit an authorized Apple service shop to have the battery replaced.

While you need an appointment at the Apple Store / Genius Bar, most service shops do not require an appointment....and they will be far less busy than the Apple Store.

Recently, I was able to have the battery in my phone replaced in less than a hour at a local shop without an appointment. I simply dropped the phone off, went to grab some lunch and the phone was ready when I returned to the shop.

You can find a list of authorized shops in your area by using this link: Find Locations

You don't indicate which model of phone that you have, but the cost for a new battery will be in the $69-89 range (U.S.)
