Contact photos aren’t cropping correctly

I have an iPhone 13 pro running the latest IOS (17.5.1) and every time I try to change my friends contact photos on my phone, I can edit it and crop it the way I want it to. However, after I exit contact, it reverts back to the whole screen picture and not the cropped version. I noticed when I go back to try and crop it again, it saves two contact photos, one with the whole photo and one with the cropped version. When I select the cropped version, it accepts my selection but reverts back after a couple of seconds to the whole screen picture.

I’ve looked at some solutions to help possibly isolate the issue. I’ve turned off the iCloud sync of my contacts in my setting and the issue still persists. I tried creating a new contact and editing that profile picture and the issue still exists. I think it might be a bug in the IOS since I have a new(ish) phone and its running the latest version of IOS.
