Spoken Directions stopped in Maps

Spoken directions in Maps and Google Maps suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. But navigation continues. Spoken Directions setting reset to “louder volume” doesn’t fix. Using iOS 17.5.1 on iPhone 15 Pro Max.
