Operating an Apple TV using either an iPad or MacBook Pro

Hello, I have two Apple TVs that I would like to erase using either an iPad or MacBook Pro. A TV is not available to us. It seems that there are many articles on how to screen mirror. In other words showing on the Apple TV using a TV to show the iPad screen but not how to operate an Apple TV using an iPad or MacBook. Can this be done? How can you do it? If not how can I erase an Apple TV without a TV? Thanks.

An Apple TV box will need to connect to a TV (or HDMI-monitor or projector), as its only output is over HDMI. There is no access for iPads or MacBook Pro, that gives visual feedback of what is going on.

To erase it, you would have to find a TV (or HDMI-monitor or projector) to use temporarily. Perhaps you have a good neighbor that can help out in this regard? It is a fast procedure. Reset or restore your Apple TV to its factory settings - Apple Support
