Mac keeps using degraded audio despite no bluetooth audio devices being connected

I'm aware that when using bluetooth audio devices with Macbooks, the output quality drops significantly when the input is used (i.e. in a video call or something).

However, both my input/output are not bluetooth devices, and I'm experiencing random degraded audio whenever I wake up my MacBook Pro. Sometimes I need to replug my laptop a few times and it'll resolve itself, but it's really frustrating to have to do this.

It's worth noting I don't have any apps open that are actively using the mic. For reference, I'm using:

  • 2019 MacBook Pro 16in
  • Yeti Blue Nano wired mic
  • Set of wired speakers
  • Caldigit TS3+ dock that connects all my devices to the laptop

Has anyone run into this or know a solution?
