Setting up Replacement Phone For Child

im trying to set up my sons replacement phone, he was previously set up as an adult, my mistake, now I want to set up his new phone as a child and I keep getting an error message that his appkeID is taken. What can I do?

Hello, KB8313

This Apple article will help you Create an Apple ID for your child – Apple Support, instead of sharing an account with your child, which can give them unwanted access to your personal data, create an Apple ID for them. Then you can easily set age-based parental controls, and they can use Family Sharing, Messages, the App Store, and other Apple services.

I hope this information helps setup an account for your child.

Take care

To me it sounds like he already had an account and does not need to set up as new one as was suggested in a previous reply*. In that case read the support article: Update the birth date associated with your Apple ID - Apple Support :

To change a birth date to any age below 13 (age varies by country), you must be a member of a Family Sharing group [ Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support ], and your family organizer must approve the change. After you change a birth date to any age below 13, you can't alter it except by contacting Apple Support --> Contact - Official Apple Support

1. Follow the instructions in the article to update the birth date on an Apple mobile device or on the web.

2. Follow the onscreen steps to send an email request to your family organizer.

3. Your family organizer will get an email with instructions to approve the request.

Read the document for complete details.

* In fact you want to avoid setting up a new account because he will lose access to his previous purchases made with the old one and transferring other things can be very difficult.
