The Tsunami of Deactivated Apple IDs in Iran: Double Injustice from Apple and the Government

Hello. I am an unofficial seller of Apple products in Iran. Every day, we receive reports that users’ Apple IDs are encountering the error “Apple ID IS not Active.” Even users who have been using an Apple ID for 10 years are facing this issue. I might as well call it a tsunami of deactivated Apple IDs!!! There is no easy solution to this problem because contacting Apple Support to resolve this issue is difficult, as it is not possible to request a call to an Iranian phone number. The people of Iran love the Apple brand, and we are both sanctioned by Apple and unable to register new Apple products like the iPhone 14 and 15 due to the harsh restrictions imposed by the Iranian government for the past two years. It is unfair that the people of Iran are oppressed both by their own government and by Apple!

Even if Iran is under sanctions, should an Apple ID of a traveler who comes to Iran become inactive? Isn’t this unfair? Why should an Apple ID that has worked for years become inactive!?

What reason does Apple have to take such a harsh action? Do they have a problem with ordinary people?

Legal - iCloud - Apple

B. Termination by Apple

Apple may at any time, under certain

circumstances and without prior notice, immediately terminate or suspend

all or a portion of your Account and/or access to the Service. Cause

for such termination shall include: (a) violations of this Agreement or

any other policies or guidelines that are referenced herein and/or

posted on the Service; (b) a request by you to cancel or terminate your

Account; (c) a request and/or order from law enforcement, a judicial

body, or other government agency; (d) where provision of the Service to

you is or may become unlawful; (e) unexpected technical or security

issues or problems; (f) your participation in fraudulent or illegal

activities; or (g) failure to pay any fees owed by you in relation to

the Service, provided that in the case of non-material breach, Apple

will be permitted to terminate only after giving you 30 days’ notice and

only if you have not cured the breach within such 30-day period. Any

such termination or suspension shall be made by Apple in its sole

discretion and Apple will not be responsible to you or any third party

for any damages that may result or arise out of such termination or

suspension of your Account and/or access to the Service.

There is no indication on the forums there is a radical increase in deactivated accounts. Sure there are some, but there are always some. It could be that people are trying to use services that are not available to them and are therefore violating the terms of use above. Just because they buy a phone in one country does not mean they can expect to use all features everywhere. If an account is being deactivated then likely Apple suspects something is infringing on its terms. This can happen anywhere, but Iran is currently under sanctions and if you are there then there are more limitations on the services you can use. If you try to find ways to violate those terms then Apple may disable an account.

Again, if you have a complaint to make to Apple then make it to Apple. We are not Apple and complaining to us does no good.

Are you sure this is happening across the board? Read the documents in the links provided and some of the ones off that. Apparently Apple can provide certain services. The extent to which they may and choose to do so is, of course, up to them. You may be hearing from a select group of people who like many other people in the world have had their accounts made inactive for one reason or another. Nothing to do with Iran in particular, except to the extent that Apple does not do business there and therefore does not provide support for its products in places where it does not do business.

Also remember that everybody replying on this forum is just another Apple products user. We do not work for Apple. If after reading the documentation you still wish to leave feedback for Apple, this is the place to do it --> Product Feedback - Apple

This means Apple is infringing on people’s privacy. An Apple ID is a personal account, and Apple is deliberately making the device inaccessible from abroad. A device with a deactivated Apple ID becomes useless. Apple only has the right to decide about the sale of its products or after-sales services in a country and even comply with sanction laws, not to damage a product it has already sold. I have customers who have temporarily moved to Iran for work reasons. Why should Apple deactivate their Apple IDs?
