I can't update my payment method

Have you checked your payment method? Read this document about how to view your current payment types and add Apple ID payment methods on an Apple mobile device, a Mac, or a PC --> Add a payment method to your Apple ID - Apple Support

If an item appears in red then it is no longer working and you either need to replace it or get it working again. Apple may require the presence of a valid payment method such as a card, even if an app is free. You won't be charged but the card has to be there and in working order.

Edit: Uh, it seems to me a response made just prior to mine is emphasizing Apple Pay and Wallet. Since Apple Pay may not be available in all countries where a general payment method is, and you do not necessarily have to be using Wallet, I am not sure that those are the links you need.

Try the following:

• Be sure to activate your card before attempting to add it to Apple Wallet by contacting your bank.
• Be sure the card has not expired.
• Be sure to verify all information on the card matches exactly.

—Apple Pay Support—

• Set up Apple Pay.
• Pay Participating Banks.
• Can’t add a card to Apple Wallet.

If none of those work, then try linking the payment method:

Open Settings ➢ your name at the top of the list ➢ Payment & Shipping ➢ Add Payment Method.

Once the payment method has been added, you should have the option to link it to Apple Pay.
