When events are created on iMac, calendar almost aways creates an alert 10 minutes prior to event. Check settings and default alert is set to none. If I create an event on iPhone when the iPhone calendar syncs with the iMac it again creates an alert for 10 minutes prior.

Make sure to select the iCloud account in Calendar > Settings > Alerts. The settings for the iCloud and "On My Mac" accounts are separate and you can set different values for each.
For the iCloud account, try to set a value other than “None” and do a test. If the new value “sticks”, revert to “None.” I’m thinking that the settings may be stuck and toggling them might reset them.
Thanks for trying. Another long shot: open the Terminal app (in the folder Applications > Utilities) and execute the following command:
defaults read com.apple.iCal 'Default alarm time'
I'm not really familiar with Terminal but I did open it and pasted "defaults read com.apple.iCal 'Default alarm time'"
The response was: The domain/default pair of (com.apple.iCal, Default alarm time) does not exist
Been using Macs for 45 years and never used terminal!! Thanks again for your help.
Thanks for the hint 6x6. I checked the iCloud and On My Mac settings and unfortunately the alerts for those are all set a none. Good idea anyway.

I have that setting on my Mac but I suspect it's a carryover from older versions of macOS. That was really a long shot. Sorry I can't be of more help.
