Error when adding mail ID ""Invalid Email This email address is not available. Choose a different address"

I purchased a new Iphone. I wanted to enter my data manually. When prompted for my email address, I was told the email address was already in use. So, I used my secondary email address. When I try to add my primary email, I receive the message "Invalid Email This email address is not available. Choose a different address". Please help.

Where are you trying to do this? For what purpose? To me it sounds like you are trying to set up a new Apple account. To do that, Apple won't let you re-use an email address it has seen before.


Since you already have an account (you are posting to this forum which requires an ID), why not just sign in with it?

For an Apple Mobile device:

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Tap Sign in to your [device].

3. Enter your Apple ID and password.

4. If prompted, enter the six-digit verification code sent to your trusted device or phone number and complete sign in.
