OVERWRITE TO PRIMARY SORYLINE bugged in 10.8

What you see is what should happen - as I'm sure you agree.

I don't know if the media or frame rate play any part of the problem.

The problem seems to be more nuanced. I have been experimenting a bit with this minimal example:

Each clip is 10 seconds long, the blue starts at 0, and the green starts at 5 seconds. Overwriting should result in 5 seconds blue followed by 10 seconds green

I have done Overwite to Primary Storyline several times, trying to document the problem on my mac, and here is what I found: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When overwriting, the green clip should start at 5 seconds, but at times it only starts at 10 seconds, and the blue is retained in full.

It seems that the position of the playhead influences the outcome. I can get the correct result:

AND I can also get the incorrect result:

The difference? Placing the playhead at the end of the blue clip or farther to the right produces the incorrect (10 sec blue 5 sec green). Placing the playhead to the left of where the blue clip ends yields the correct result.

Weird, but reproducible.

I think it is clear what is happening, though not why it is happening. Basically, clips are taking priority based on starting time, instead of stacking order. It is clearly a bug, and unfortunately the workaround that works for me does not work for you.

Time to provide feedback: Final Cut Pro->Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback...

Thank you for the illustrations. They make it clear that you are right. The top clip should take precedence, but instead it is doing it left to right. I can reproduce this on my mac. At the moment I do not have access to an older version like 10.7.1 to see if it was already happening there, but I will when I can.

It’s really hard to see in the screenshots what’s happening in the filmstrip. Just show a closer section of one edit and explain what happens. Ideally you would use color generators to illustrate what’s happening, what’s being cut where.

The behavior I’m seeing in current version hasn’t changed from what I would expect.

Similar issue - Clips coming onto the Primary storyline are not timed the same as they were above the storyline. Also retiming causes the clips to move out of place which is a little odd. Thanks for the tests verbalkint33.

It looks correct. The connected clips are trimmed where they overlap.
