When viewing iCloud photos online I can see photos dating back to mid 2021, however I clearly have iCloud photos backed up to 2017 - as they recently repopulated to my new phone. I would like to permanently back up my photos to a drive - which is difficult if I cannot see the older ones on iCloud. Is there a reason the older photos are not seen on iCloud when viewed via the web editor?

Update .... a few days later the older photos are there. They were clearly stored on iCloud as they backed up to my new phone perfectly, but the older ones did not show on the online browser till now. My guess would be that the web interface database needed to populate ...?
Also, what was an unexpected storage issue on my new phone is suddenly resolved as well. From what I have read my phone photos have been replaced with smaller resolution versions to save space - with dramatic results.
Hope this helps someone else.
