Cannot Turn Off Apple Watch Passcode

I don't want to have a passcode on my Apple Watch but if I turn it off and try to access the menu or anything it comes back with a message "Your iPhone has a policy that requires a new Apple Watch passcode".

Is there a setting on my iPhone which is stopping me from turning the watch passcode off?

It's a model MR8Y3CH/A watch (latest?) and my iPhone is the model 12.

Thanks for any suggestions

I've done this many times both on the watch and in the Watch app on the iPhone and it shows that it is off both on the watch and the iPhone app. However, whenever I try to do anything on the watch I cannot and just get a message on the screen stating "your iPhone has a policy that requires a new Apple Watch passcode"
Sometimes I can access other features on the watch for a minute but then get the message.

To me, this is a tell-tale sign

That, or the iPhone that this iWatch is paired to, might be using some type of Mobile Digital Management Service like Jamf or some other MDM Service

Note: If you disable your passcode, some features won’t be available. For example, you can’t use Apple Pay or unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch. "

Lock or unlock Apple Watch

Excerpt from above link

" Turn off the passcode

  1. Open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch.
  2. Tap Passcode, then tap Turn Passcode Off.

You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, tap Passcode, then tap Turn Passcode Off.

Note: If you disable your passcode, some features won’t be available. For example, you can’t use Apple Pay or unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch. "

Not sure what these MDM Services are, as far as I know I don't have anything like that installed. All I know is that I have a watch which is just a watch without the passcode activated. A pain the the proverbial but maybe one day I'll get a solution.

Thanks and regards
