Vertical artifacts correlate VERY stongly with hardware issues in the display module itself, because at no time inside the computer or in transmission, are display items stored as Vertical anything.
The screen is made of a stack of horizontal slices, placed one below the other. You only get perfect vertical pictures when everything lines up perfectly. Any issues (except in the display itself) cause the rows not to line up and the screen to go wonky.
