I upgraded my macbook pro to OS Sonoma 14.5 and now Pages is horrible

Is there a way to get my old Pages back? When I use the 'Remove Background' button, it automatically chops up my image with no discretion, removing people's arms, etc. I used to be able to zero in on a color and remove it, but now I have no control, it removes the entire background, even things I don't want removed. Now I have to upload my image to Canva, Remove Background, then send it back to my computer. I have MacBook Pro OS Sonoma 14.5.

Pages has no remove background feature.

It is a System Quick Action that works on an image when it is selected in the Finder. However, background removal is highly dependent on whether there is sufficient difference in the colors shared with the background and the image that you want isolated.

Sorry, I was not aware of that Pages feature. Thank you for the screenshot.

I tried it with a few images, and it seems to work fine...

What version of Pages do you have? I installed 14.1 two days ago. Maybe this was a bug in 14.0 and has been fixed?

FWIW, I am running 14.5 on an M3 MacBook Air.

I did it in Preview, and also did it in Pages, and they are both working for me.

It may be interesting to see how it works in Preview, compared to Pages. I would guess that if it fails in one, it may also fail in the other, but anyway it may be helpful in trying to figure this out.

Regarding the old Pages: perhaps you can retrieve it from a Time Machine backup, otherwise probably not; anyway, since we don't know which version it was, there is a good chance that it does not work in Sonoma.

Pages? Did you mean Preview? I never heard of Pages having a "remove background" feature.

And, FWIW, Preview does a great job in my mac.

Would it be possible for you to post an example of an image where it is failing so we have an idea of what is happening to you, and also test on our macs for comparison?

I have been using this button for many years with no problem. I use it 'LIVE' on my Pages document without ever moving it to Preview. It has happened on other images too. The contrast is great enough that it shouldn't be seen as part of the background. I also don't like the border it leaves on the image, I can't cut any closer without chopping into the image.
