Looking through the manual for the ET-3850, there is no option for two sided scanning. Which is odd since it will do two sided copying.
I've always had good luck with Epson's staff responding to an email in no more than two days.
I looked through the manual again, and there's no mention of two sided scanning. This is just plain weird. That's exactly what the device is already doing when it duplexes your original to PRINT two sides. There's no reason at all it can't use the same method to SCAN two sides to a file.

Maybe a question for Epson. They have a support site:
Thanks to someone replying with a link ( sorry, I can’t identify them anymore) I was able to get a message to Epson support. They have made it very difficult to access help. If I can get an answer (and it is seriously in doubt) I will try to let you all know. Thanks for the help!
Thanks Bob, for the link. I did get a message to Epson after three attempts. Not confident it will produce results. I have tried several times before your link and met with no success. How did you find the link?

Hopefully their help staff will offer a solution. I found the help site by doing a google search for "ep-3850". Then their site has a support link.
What Apple device? What macOS version?
