Apple Tap Pay at Kroger

The transaction terminal or POS isn’t programmed yet (or misprogramed). Krogers just recently started accepting Apple Pay. They have rolled out Apple Pay over time. However, Krogers has accepted Tap-To-Pay for years.

Does your wife shop the same Krogers location and go through the same checkout line? Have you tried multiple Krogers locations?

Apple does not approve or decline transactions. Only your bank can approve or decline transactions? Have you contacted your bank and inquired why they are declining the transaction? Make sure you inform the bank they declined an Apple Pay transaction.

I didn’t want to bias your answer. But declines from the bank will say >>declined<< and not >>not approved<<

This irregularity makes me think it’s the PNO. They effectively shortstop the transaction before the bank sees the transaction.

What is the error message? Is the credit card an American Express card?

The other possibility is the Payment Network Operator, Visa in your case, is declining the transaction.

Have you reported fraud or identity issues on any transactions or accounts in the last year?
