Why is iCloud so slow and how do I fix it

Uploading and downloading photos from iCloud is so painfully slow for my main phone. When it works, it's good but my iPhone SE 1st generation on iOS 15.7.7 is literally faster at uploading photos to my iCloud than my iPhone 11 on iOS 17.5.1.

Sometimes, to even get my iPhone to upload a photo to iCloud in less than 5 minutes, I have to stop syncing with iCloud and restart.

Does anyone have any fixes?

iPhone 11, iOS 17

The upload and download speed is controlled entirely by your internet connection speed. So you need to find out what is limiting that speed. Get the speedtest app or go to speedtest.net to find out your throughput.

And, do you use VPN? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. VPN, even when it’s working, will cut your speed by a factor of 4, or to 25% of your raw connection speed.
