How to fix text highlighting issues in apps on macOS Sonoma?

In some apps I cannot highlight text. The text is selected, but it doesn't show. Makes it difficult to change the font color of some text. Cannot see the cursor either. If I click in a string of text, the cursor is placed there but it isn't visible. Extremely frustrating! Any ideas how to fix the issue, or wait for Os 15?

Hi, click on the Apple icon, top left - choose System Settings, then click on Appearance. Third line from the top is highlight color. It seems like the default color is white. Set it to purple for example and your problem will be solved.

I got the Mac Mini with Ventura and immediately upgraded to Sonoma. At first everything worked fine. For example in Outlook for Mac I could select text and make it bold or select text and change the color. The selected text would have a grayish shading to show that it had been selected. With the new Os the apps obviously also updated, I didn't keep track of those. I could click anywhere in a string of text and I could see the cursor where I clicked.

At some point I realized that selected text doesn't have the grayish shading anymore. If I select text to make it bold, I can still do that, but the selected text doesn't have a shading anymore, so only after I made it bold, I can see that the last letter for example wasn't part of the selection. Impossible to see at first since there isn't a shading over the selected characters/text. When I click anywhere in a paragraph, I cannot see the cursor, so I have to type a character to see where the cursor actually is.

I created a virtual machine today with UTM and installed Ventura. Text selection was fine, text that I selected had a grayish shading. So, it appears to be Sonoma that is causing this. In some apps selected text still has a grayish tint, but in the app I use most (Outlook), it doesn't work.

It works on the test admin account I created. Thanks. So, I compared the settings and found the issue, I think, but still don't know how to fix it. In the Display settings under Accessibility, the filter is now set to grayscale like the default on the test user account, but I can't see the slider to choose high intensity for the filter. It must be turned all the way down, but I can't see the slider to slide it to the right. Screenshot attached. I have tried to click where it should be, but it's just not there.

I have Sonoma 14.5. I'm desperate to find an answer to this issue. I have spent hours combing through the system settings for the macbook air and the programs, such as Excel and Word. This problem is in the Chrome browser, too. Everywhere. I'm pulling my hair out. I need to see the text I've chosen before I copy and paste it. Anyone have an answer for people who aren't techies? I can't find any way into fix anything on my mac. No tools or diagnostics. Please help.
