You basically can't as the Apple AirTags are not designed for tracking. If tracking your dog is important to you, you should consider getting a dedicated tracker that relies on GPS, not Bluetooth.

It is not recommended using AirTags on animals for a couple of reasons:

  • They can get the AirTag off the collar and swallow them.
  • AirTags are Bluetooth trackers that require another Apple device within Bluetooth range to be able to locate it. This is usually about 30 feet. Most of the time animals that run away will not be in range of another device to be located. This same limitation applies to all Bluetooth trackers, such as Tile.
