Crash Report Analysis

I've had issues w my 2018 Macbook Pro, Sonoma 14.5, keeps crashing.

Here's the latest diagnostic report. Can anyone help me determine what's going on?

The full panic report is too long to add here even as an "additional text". If there are certain parts you want to see, let me know.

Nope, EtreCheck is not Malware and is used extensively in this Apple Support site to solve problems on a users computer. In cases like yours where you have a diagnostic report that is showing high CPU use and provides limited information on the cause, EtreCheck is essential in showing:

  • Apps consuming high CPU
  • Apps consuming the most Energy
  • Apps consuming the most Netwrork Activity
  • Recent Crash Reports and frequency of those crashes
  • Speed of HD
  • Kernel Extensions installed
  • LaunchDaemons installed
  • LaunchAganets installed

EtreCheck was developed by an active user on this support site and if we were recommending to install Malware, the moderators would intervene. Without using EtreCheck my only suggestion would be to do a Factory Reset on your Mac. You would not be able to restore it from a backup because you would just be restoring the problem. After that you would have to install each Application one at a time until you can identify what is crashing the computer.

The issue appears to come from a problem with indexing your Hard Drive. This is most likely an incompatibility with multiple drive related apps causing a conflict with the other and some of those may have been migrated from a previous OS where they worked fine. It is difficult to determine the specific one that may be causing the problem, so I will highlight each one just to make sure you are aware that they are still on your computer.

  • CleverFiles
  • BitLocker
  • WD Discovery
  • Seagate Toolkit

Apps that use a third party encryption or backup solution will many times cause issues with your computers ability to index those files. The apps provided by iBoySoft easily conflict with this process as well. The report shows that there are some files related to BitLocker that are no longer pointing to a valid file. When deleting apps, make sure to use any provided uninstaller first as an App Cleaner will fail to remove all files and in some cases cannot remove any System Extensions that have been installed.

Sorry I am unable to point to the specific cause of the issue, but it does appear to have started causing issues on 6/28/24 if that helps with any system changes that had been made at that time. Hopefully someone else will be able to chime in that have experienced that same problem and have identified the conflict with the information you have provided.

Please post the entire Kernel Panic log here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper on the forum editing toolbar. The Kernel Panic logs can be found in "/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports" usually with a file name beginning with "kernel" and ending in ".panic". Post both Kernel Panic logs even though EtreCheck thinks they are the same. If you don't see any in that folder, then check the "Retired" sub folder.

You can try booting into Safe Mode to see how things work, but some of your third party software and possibly hardware may not function because Safe Mode prevents the automatic launching of third party software during boot & login. If Safe Mode works, then it is likely one of the items mentioned by @Mac Jim ID is causing the problem. Unfortunately if Safe Mode does not work either, then you still may have an issue with one of those apps especially if they modified a system setting which persists even when that software is not running.

Also try disconnecting all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

I agree with @Mac Jim ID's analysis as well. I would even suggest running Disk Utility First Aid on the hidden Container. Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select a"Show All Devices" before the hidden Container appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. Even if First Aid says everything is "Ok", click "Show Details" and scroll through the report to see if any unfixed errors are listed. If there are errors, then run First Aid again until they are gone. If after several attempts the errors remain, then boot into Recovery Mode to run First Aid. If after several more scans the errors remain, then you will need to erase the disk followed by reinstalling macOS & restoring from a backup.

I do hope you have a good backup of your computer. If not, then that should be your first priority since it is very easy to permanently lose access to the data stored on the internal SSD of this computer due to all the hardware, software, and security changes.

FYI, VPNs do not provide the privacy or security people think they do. VPN software is only useful for connecting to an employer's network to access items or for bypassing local regional restrictions.

Not much can be gained from the Diagnostic Report. To provide more details on what is going on with your computer post the EtreCheck report using the Additional Text option when posting. After the report runs, tap the Share Report button to copy it to the clipboard, then paste it in the Additional Text box. The report contains no personal information.

Using EtreCheck - Apple Community

First of all

I second @ Mac Jim ID suggestion to use Etrecheck application

We would not suggest using an application unless it is proven to do what it does

The Application is Not a " Silver Bullet "  and is  only a tool to examine the Hardware / Software used on this computer

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer Hardware / Software used on this computer

Background Etrecheck Application

At one time there was an  Etrecheck Application available on the Apple Apps Store.

Due to certain constrains place upon the Developer by APPLE, the developer chose to remove it from the Store and make is available Directly from them.

This specific application is well known,  on these Forums,  as a Go To for trouble shooting and avoiding all the question / answer and question / answer to finally get the issue pinned down.

It is also known and reported by Reliable Sources that,  sometimes APPLE SUPPORT has invoked using this same Developer Distributed Version of Etrecheck application to trouble shot computer issues

Lastly - should you decide to use and post the Report now or at a later time, we are willing to have a very close look and offer some insights

EtreCheck is not approved throught the Apple app store and there are several links I've found from different sources accusing it of being malware.

Is there an Apple approved method of getting you the information necessary?

If one believes everything on the internet regarding Etrecheck application

Mis-Information
