If you haven't hacked or jailbroken your phone, you should have nothing to worry about.

No not scared, and have updated. No problems for me.

I've never had a bricked phone from an update. So, I'm never scared either. And I'm either just lucky, or people who brick their phones are just plain doing something wrong (not intentionally of course). But everytime an update comes out, there are "the sky has fallen" reports, but no one I know has ever had an issue themselves.......go figure

Hi there, I was concerned at first as I hopped onto this forum and saw all the problems people had with the update. But I read alot of the threads which mentioned having a reliable Internet connection so the download won't be interrupted or download corrupt, if u are using a computer that has anti-virus and firewall u may have to turn them off before downloading as it may block the update. Some users have suggested that u must be using the iPhone USB cable as a generic one can corrupt the phone updating and also make sure the USB is plugged into the computer itself and not a USB hub. Make sure u back up your phone before you update.

I had no issues updating. Took 15 mins to download and less than 10mins to install. After updating to 4.0.2 I have even seem my battery life perform marginally better and couldn't be happier.

I hope these ideas help u in deciding. If ur near an apple store I know that they are happy to update your phone for you. Well here in Australia they do 
