I Tunes immediately and permanently removes files as soon as they are added to library

I've had my I Tunes account for nearly 20 years, and have never had this happen. When I try to add new artists and songs to my library, I Tunes is immediately and PERMANENTLY deleting those files. They're not in the recycle bin, they're not in their original folder, they are just gone.
