Is it possible to upgrade my iMac from Catalina to the next system?

I am wondering if I can upgrade my iMac to the next level operating system - I am currently using Catalina 10.15.7

If you can upgrade to Ventura or Sonoma, I'd recommend doing so. Big Sur is no longer one of the "most recent three" and may no longer be sufficient to run applications from vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe. Monterey will be in the same boat in just a few short months, once Sequoia comes out.

You will need

  • a 2014 or later iMac to upgrade to Big Sur
  • a Late 2015 or later iMac to upgrade to Monterey
  • a 2017 or later iMac to upgrade to Ventura
  • a 2019 or later iMac to upgrade to Sonoma
