Can’t reset Apple ID password for Gmail Email

I have my iTunes etc linked to a gmail account and it locked me out when i forgot the password - I got the reset link today but it keeps taking me into my ICloud account to sign in / change password for my main email which is different from my subscription email. I can’t “merge” my accounts either or access the subs account to change the email to an iCloud one because of the freeze on my account to reset the password. Please Halp!
