Magic Keyboard - iPad Pencil Pro - Wallet - Siri Issues

This year I’ve invested in more Apple products. Specifically the new 2024 iPad (my last iPad was the 2012 version so this is a big upgrade for me). I also purchased the new iPad Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard. All three of these items not cheap in any fashion. To my dismay and surprise, I find out the Magic Keyboard does not allow for portrait at all. This is a huge issue. Not only do I need to use and view programs in portrait mode, I need to utilize the keyboard as well. Also, a pencil holder is missing on the keyboard. I get that it’s magnetic, but when placing the iPad and keyboard in a bag for travel, the pencil gets knocked off too easily. Did no one at Apple think these things through when designing this? A simple rotating design with a pencil slot on the case. The second big disappointment is the iPad Pencil Pro. It’s my first Apple Pencil. I love it! Except when I tried using it with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Uhh.. okay, after some online searching I learn that no Apple Pencil has ever worked with the iPhone and there are no plans to do this. Again, why? I can go online and purchase cheap Chinese pencils to work with my iPhone, but I do not want that. I want ALL my Apple products to seamlessly work together. This shouldn’t even be a question from any Apple consumer. Next, the Wallet app on the iPad. Again, online research tells me Apple took that away in a 14 iOS update. WHY? Put it back please. I have Wallet on my iWatch, iPhone, and NEED it on the iPad. I’m patiently waiting for fall to upgrade iPhones and iWatch. I’m really hoping some good changes come about. Siri could also use a kick in the pants. She really needs to be more intuitive and user friendly. Example, Driving down the road, and I say, “Hey Siri, call ABC Company” and Siri replies, “You need to unlock your iPhone first”. That is no help and totally not hands free

Thank you for listening.

I’m assuming you purchased everything without seeing in person or looking at the info online about them…particularly the Magic Keyboard. Unfortunately if things like being able to use the iPad in portrait mode with a case/keyboard combo and having a pencil holder integrated into the case were important to you the Magic Keyboard was never going to fit your needs. The Apple Pencil has never worked on any device other than compatible iPads and there has never been an Apple made stylus that worked with an iPhone. As far as the wallet app on the iPad….unless you were planning taking your iPad into stores and trying to complete tap payments the actual app isn’t necessary on the iPad. Otherwise the payment methods you have in the Wallet app on your iPhone are also available on your iPad (if you approved adding those debit/credit cards on the iPad) and can be used for online payments if you have the option toggled on in settings under Wallet & Apple Pay. You just can’t use NFC to do tap payments at a payment terminal. As far as Siri and the scenario you mentioned…are you using the iPhone independent of a connection to your car radio? Does your car radio only support Bluetooth but does not have CarPlay or its own hands-free protocol? I ask because what you want is in part based on the capabilities of your cars head unit. Also, check your settings on your phone to make sure that you have Allow Siri When Locked enabled. It’s under Siri & Search. That may be the real reason why you are being told you meet to unlock your iPhone first.
