Issues connecting dual monitors to a MacBook using Belkin Hub

I purchased the Belkin Connect Thunderbolt 4 5-in-1 Core hub to connect two screen to my mac. This has been unsuccessful. Says it is compatible with MacBook Air. I want to use the two monitors and not the laptop display. any assistance appreciated.

Your Mac only supports one external display. The Belkin Connect Thunderbolt dock can drive two 4K displays – but only if the Mac can provide signals for both of them. Your Mac can't.

Closing the lid of the M1 MacBook Air will not help. The M1 and M2 MacBook Airs do not have the ability to take the resources that would normally be used for the built-in screen and use them for a second external one when the lid is closed. (That's a M3 MacBook Air feature.)
