Why is my Apple Pay not working when it's active?
It says that it works. It’s on an active but when I go to tap, nothing happens.

Are you double clicking the side button/power button? Double clicking activates Apple Pay. Once activated it allows you to pick the card you want to use or apply a loyalty card.
