How to sort photos down to albums when uploading any photo to web pages in safari.

I am running Sonoma 14.5... how do I upload a photo from one of my ALBUMS in safari. i.e. to Facebook or Instagram etc.

Once selecting upload image on the web page it takes me to a "Finder" window, I then select Photos under the media tab on the bottom of the left menu. From there it populates my entire media library of 10,000 plus photos with no ability to sort down to an album.

What am I missing?

I spoke to Apple support and they had no solution. One idea they had was to drag and drop, I wish I would have done that on the call. After I got off phone I attempted drag and drop, and surprise you can't drag photos out of the Photos app on MacBook, you can only export...

Maybe I am still missing something.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You're not missing anything-- it's a weird incompatibility that has come up since Apple tried to improve the process of uploading-- some apps work OK, most don't.

There are a few ways around the problem.

  • If I have several pictures, I usually just use the menu choice "File>Export>Export nn Photos" to send the pictures I want to a temporary folder I create on the desktop. Then I point the upload page to that. Then I delete the Finder folder. It's fast, and I can double check if I did what I wanted. I think if I did this a lot, I'd just keep an empty Transfer folder on the Desktop.
  • Sometimes in Photos I select all the pictures I want to transfer and attach a keyword, maybe "upload," to them. The upload selector used in Safari has a search feature, so I just search for that keyword.
  • You can use the upload Search field for things that are already part of the picture, like the date, or the location, or even the category, like "Car," and then pick from the ones that show up. Here I'm using a location:

You may think of other ways to use search, it just depends on what you're trying to find.
