Why is my mobile number not showing in iMessage after switching to eSIM?

I converted my physical sim to esim and now i am unable to send sms from my mobile number , i checked the send as sms option but still its not working . In the iMessage section mobile number is not showing only mail id is visible. When i check in sign in and security section it says you must have a sim associated with a apple device to use iMessage and facetime . What does that mean? Does it mean i cannot send sms without having a physical sim or i should have opted my mobile number before changing to esim?

Please anyone sugget me

You can send iMessages without a physical SIM but it sounds like that iMessage and FaceTime are not regognziing your e sim. Have you tried to see if you can make calls? If not, then something is wrong with your e sim, contact your provider for that

If you can make calls, try and restart your iPhone to see if the issues persist, You might also find this link useful:
