"mail quit unexpectedly" can't open mail since upgraded to Sonoma 2024

I have not been able to open my MacOS mail since I upgraded to Sonoma which I was told I REALLY needed to do. I have tried all the things I could find online and still the same problem. Mail quit unexpectedly. Maybe someone can tell me something new to try.

1) moved mail out of dock and tired to open in application folder - no change

2) deleted all accounts except for iCloud mail from mail internet accounts. One by one until only iCloud- no change

3) Force quit mail before it crashed, restarted and tried to open from application folder - no change

4) Deleted the com mail folders in Library containers, restarted computer - no change

5) Tried to reboot in safemode - computer just gave me the time and when I restarted again - no change

6)Tried to reboot in safemode again. tried to open in safe mode. same crash and message - no change

7) threw computer against the wall and cursed everyone who said I needed to update my software (like Chase because website stopped working on the old OS I had installed). - only cursed didn't throw no change

7)I've been at this for 3 weeks and beyond frustrated.

PLEASE HELP. This is why I don't upgrade! Aarrrggghhhh

The note below said OSX but it's actually OS 14.5.

Press and hold a Shift key while launching Mail from Applications or the Dock (doesn't matter which). That action opens Mail in windowed mode (not full screen) with no previously selected email message open.

Release the Shift key when the mail message viewer window opens.

In so doing you might be able to determine if Mail is crashing on a malformed email message by methodically opening each one. If and when you find it, you can use iCloud.com to log in to your iCloud Mail account in a browser, and delete the malformed message(s).

The problem with Chase Bank's website is the fault of their apparently inept website developer. In short they implemented an outdated and privacy-intrusive means of determining browser eligibility. No major financial institution does that any more, nor should they. It's an irresponsible and arguably unsafe practice has been discouraged for years.
