iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone ... Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings.

This is a solution to the error message "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone "". Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings."

I provided the solution below for both Widows ad Mac, but be aware that you might lose all the offline songs and ringtone etc, so I strongly advise you to backup your iPhone using a third-party software like iMazing.

Follow the steps carefully, to fix the error:

  1. Download and install iFunBox software (if the newer version doesn't work then use the older one)
  2. Connect your iPhone to the computer/Mac
  3. Open iFunBox and on the left panel scroll down and click on Raw File System
  4. Open the folder named iTunes Control
  5. Delete the folder named iTunes
  6. Disconnect the iPhone
  7. Reconnect the iPhone
  8. Open iTunes/Finder and follow the instructions to set up the device
